We have created a new and original planisphere – designed by American Astronomer Mark Peterson. Our planisphere is double sided so can be used by the most novice of astronomers pointing out only the brightest constellations..when you have mastered this, simply flip the planisphere over and find other stars. Not only that Global Mapping’s Planisphere has another innovation - instead of using a rivet to hold the apparatus together–covering up Polaris, the North Star–the map’s outer frame holds the star wheel in place, permitting an uninterrupted view of the entire night sky.

It then went on to beat the winners in the other catagories to pick up the coveted BCS Cup for the best overall winner in the process beating the likes of National Geographic and Ordnance Survey with the judges adding: “The Environmental World by Global Mapping stood out as being a piece of cartography that worked well on all levels, good mapping, symbology, clarity, use of colour and the bonus of being educational. Well received and full marks.”

We have now opened the new shop in the fabulous new Courtyard Mews in Brackley, Northamptonshire. Here we stock a down to earth version of our popular internet shop, but  you can come and see globes, wall maps and other items we sell..and chat to us in the flesh!

It has been incredible the amount of fantastic comments we’ve had with regards to the mews and our shop ..people love maps, and the history I’ve found out about Brackley due to an historical map we have on the wall has been terrific.

Lots of people have fallen in love with (as have I!)  the wonderful, magical MOVA globes..(a fantasic Christmas present if you’re short of ideas). They don’t run on batteries or are plugged in, but with a little light will revolve forever…..and of course we have a selection of our beautiful globes, illuminated and non illuminated.

I hope, if you live near or are passing Brackley that you’ll pop in. It’d be lovely to meet our online customers…

  The Courtyard Mews is an attractive new development in Brackley, Northamptonshire which will allow us to display our range of globes and wall maps.  The shop will be backed up by the showroom in Global Mapping’s new offices on the edge of the town which you are welcome to visit during normal office hours Monday-Friday.

The opening of the Courtyard Mews ties in with Brackley’s Festival of Motorcycling on August 22^nd when up to 10,000 bikers are expected to converge on the town.  We will of course be offering our specialized Atlases from Best Rides, designed specifically for Bikers.

What a wonderful gift to send to someone who’s having a birthday, getting married, had a new baby or just simply to tell them that you care.

It’s been a very chilly start to 2010 here in Northampton. There’s still snow on the ground and as I write this blog, a  grey cloud overhead  is threatening to give us some more very soon.

If you’re going walking make sure you take a reliable map for example, Ordnance Survey , these can also be site centered which may make it easier if the place you want is on the edge of a map! Or take a browse through our walking guide section.
